Knitting update:
I have finally finished the Harry Potter Scarf (see left side bar for more info). I've been working on it off-and-on since last fall. It was supposed to be a xmas present for Stormy. It's now a birthday gift. Oh well, better late than never.
Okay, it looks a little goofy on a girl in a tank-top in the middle of June, but there you have it. It's FINISHED!! Hooray!!
I'm now working on the socks. It's the first pair I've made and it's the first time I'm using double points. Arggh. I'm having a heck of a time getting used to the double points. I figure it's like all things new . . . there is a learning curve and before long, I'll think it's easy-peasy.
Here is where I was last night:
A couple of hours later:
This is after starting over about four times. I'm feeling pretty confidant now. It's starting to take shape and that is encouraging. With the toe-up pattern, I can try it on as I go, ensuring a "perfect" fit. I'm liking the colors. I only bought that color because it was on clearance and it was my first pair of socks. It's a wool and poly blend. Normally, I wouldn't go for those colors on my own.
I was talking to LikeWowMom and she warned me not to say this here, but I'm going to anyway. I don't like wool!!! I will, most likely, never purchase wool again. After I use up everything in my stash, that's it. I don't like the way it feels. I don't like the way it smells when it's wet. And worst of all it makes me itchy. Wool has come a long way, but I still don't like it up against my skin. I think it comes from having to wear a dark blue "pea coat" when I was about five. It was a very heavy, itchy, smelly old coat. I really hated that coat.
I really have been drawn to the plant based yarns, though have not knitted much with them. That's about to change!! I'll let you know about the projects to come once I know.
That's it for now . . .

Wow, that Harry Potter scarf is awesome! All she needs are a pair of round glasses and she's set!
I can't breathe! You don't like wool!!!
Have you tried Debbie Bliss's cashmerino aran? Soft as butta, baby!
But, yeah, some wool is itchy and not comfortable to wear. I've been hearing good things about soy based yarns. Soy silk?
Awesome scarf! :goodjob:
Have you seen the bamboo yarn here? Two Pointy Sticks Gorgeous!
What does the soy and bamboo yarn feel like? It looks like it would be smooth and slinky. As if it would drape well. My first thought about what to make with it was a summer top, like a camisole or tank. The bamboo yarn looks kind of shiny. It might make a gorgeous dressy scarf or shawl.
One more thing. You can see a picture of a lovely top the Two_Pointy_Sticks lady, Axelle, made with the bamboo yarn here. Just scroll down a bit.
I love that scarf! How long have you been knitting?
It turned out great! BTW, I love the new look of your site.
I think living in Oklahoma adds to your not liking wool. You don't really need wool there. But in Ohio, man, wool is a lifesaver in winter. I don't like it to be itchy though.
Maybe I'll send you my soy silk and bamboo. I'm not doing anything with them. :heartbeat:
Oh, but I beg to differ re. wool and Oklahoma! Throughout the winter we have oh so delightful swings between balmy days and bitter days. Complete with the standard Oklahoma wind, blowing down the plain y'know
Rather than getting accustomed to the cold and wind, we never quite do. Wool comes in handy!
I've been knitting socks for me in a lightweight, soft wool-cotton-nylon combination that doesn't feel at all like I always thought wool did. But go for the plant fibers if you prefer, why not?
